Today is Bob Dylan’s birthday, he’s 70. Be sure to listen to your favorite Dylan song today! This is one of my favorite videos of him

One of my favorite songs by Simon and Garfunkel. It was also featured in one of my favorite movies. Happy April and happy spring everyone.

A couple of notes: Because of copyright stuff (blah blah) you can only watch the video on youtube. Also, did you know that Art Garfunkel has a masters degree in math from Columbia University? That’s pretty cool.

Today is the birthday of my favorite Beatle, George Harrison. He would have been 68. Be sure to listen to your favorite George Harrison song today! This is one of mine

A fellow math peep introduced me to a really cool website, thesixtyone.com. You can friend me if you want, I’m rkneufeld. But I think the friending is done through facebook, which I don’t have. Regardless, it’s a great site for discovering new music, much better than pandora. Check it out!

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let’s stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear

War is over, if you want it
War is over now…

Happy Christmas

Today is the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death. A truly inspirational human being, he is missed by many. The letter above was written by Yoko Ono in which she sent her blessings to the hundreds of thousands around the world who kept a silent vigil of affection and respect for her husband on Dec. 14, 1980. In celebration of his life, I encourage you to listen to your favorite Lennon songs and share them in the comments.

A few of my favorites:

  • Imagine
  • In My Life
  • Love
  • Watching the Wheels

P.S. November 29 was the 9th anniversary of George Harrison’s death. So be sure to listen to lots of George Harrison songs too!

This post is well overdue. Last month Benoit Mandelbrot died. He is best known as the father of fractal geometry and the creator of the Mandelbrot set. In honor of Mandelbrot, enjoy the music video below. The video was made by some Cornell students. The music is by Jonathan Coulton.

A very beautiful arrangement of one of my favorite piano compositions.

I really like this music video. Paul McCartney, Natalie Portman, Michel Gondry, and a mandolin. What’s not to like?

Albums and movies that have been in my play list the past month.
